Rumours of Winx travel quashed

Speculation that Winx may embark on a European jaunt for the Northern Hemisphere summer have been well and truly put to bed.
Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes will be her swansong. The final time we see her compete on a racetrack. Full stop.
Debate has raged over the past two seasons as to where Winx sits in the pecking order of racing champions and that bar-room debate will continue for generations to come.
She is truly the horse of a lifetime and in the modern era we have been blessed with three mares who will forever rank among the best racehorses in history: Winx, Black Caviar and Makybe Diva.
Speaking at Tuesday’s barrier draw, co-owner Peter Tighe silenced any lingering suggestions that Winx may head overseas: “Everything we do now is a last and it’s very special each time we do something with her.”
Tighe said Winx’s autumn campaign has gone to script.
“Everything has gone to plan so far, the team out at the stable are more than happy with her and there’s not along more she can do,” Tighe added.
Tighe said his wife Patty is the best guide to Winx’s health: “I like to get her (Patty’s) seal of approval as they get on really well together.
“We were out there last Friday and Patty and Winx were having a kiss and cuddle session and Winx was loving every minute of it, she was really full of herself – it was a good sign for us.
“She was a lot more playful than usual, she can be a bit quiet but on that day there she was just happy to see us.”
Winx had a serious gallop prior to Doncaster Mile Day at Randwick on Saturday and amazingly she whipped home her last 600m in a quicker sectional than any horse that raced on the day.
She clocked 34.67 seconds on the bridle for the final three furlongs, which was quicker than Santa Ana Lane (35.06s) and two-year-old Libertini, who clocked the fastest last 600m on race day, 34.72s.
