Winx lights up Randwick turf

Winx lit up the Randwick track on Saturday, putting in a solid piece of work ahead of her bid for 25 straight wins in the $4million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Moments after roughie Paquirri won the Kindergarten Stakes in convincing fashion, punters trackside would have been relieved to see the ever-reliable Winx in action – albeit not racing this week.
Hugh Bowman was cleared to ride her in her exhibition gallop over 1000m, having overcome the effects of a virus that ruled him out of accepting race rides for Doncaster Mile Day on Saturday.
The Queen Elizabeth will be Winx’s autumn swansong, before an anticipated attempt at an unprecedented four straight Cox Plate victories is on the horizon longer-term – after trainer Chris Waller and the mare’s owners shelved the idea of travelling her to the Royal Ascot meeting in the UK in mid-year.
