Winx meets seven in Apollo
Superstar mare Winx will have seven rivals in this Saturday’s $250,000 Group 2 The Star Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Winx’s trainer Chris Waller will prepare three-quarters of the Apollo field with six runners. The only two horses not from the Waller stable in the Apollo are Happy Clapper (Pat Webster) and Aloisia (Ciaron Maher & David Eustace).
Saturday’s Apollo field is also evenly split between geldings and mares with Waller-trained mares Unfortgotten and Egg Tart also in the field.
Winx won the Apollo Stakes in 2016 and 2017 but didn’t contest last year’s renewal due to regular rider Hugh Bowman’s unavailability through suspension.
Eight horses ran in the 2018 Apollo Stakes and Waller won the race for the fourth time with Endless Drama.
Should Winx win the Apollo, she’ll extend her winning streak to 30.
