The mighty mare proved she was still at her dominant best in her Chipping Norton Stakes return at Randwick last Saturday and there doesn’t seem to be a challenger to her absolute superiority on the horizon.

This means Winx should claim a world record 17th Group 1 win when she races next in the $1 million George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 24. TAB has posted her at $1.15 to win her third straight George Ryder.

Then the stars (and statistics) would be aligned for Winx to equal Black Caviar’s 25 wins in succession in the richest race of the Sydney autumn carnival, the Group 1 $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Day Two of The Championships, April 14.

There is a real symmetry about Winx going to 25 wins on the same grand stage where Black Caviar ended her unbeaten career with a memorable T.J. Smith Stakes triumph at Randwick five years ago.

But trainer Chris Waller is keeping the status quo and maintaining Winx’s race program hasn’t been determined beyond the George Ryder.

Waller’s choices after the Ryder, presuming Winx wins, is the Queen Elizabeth Stakes or a trip to England to race at famous Royal Ascot.

It is even possible Winx could do both — race in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and then go to Royal Ascot.

A Queen Elizabeth Stakes start will only be Winx’s third start for the autumn carnival which isn’t a taxing race campaign if the mare’s connections do decide to take her overseas.

PUNTER CONFIDENT QUEEN WILL MAKE QUEEN

ONE punter must think Winx is running in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes as he placed a $10,000 wager at $1.40 with TAB Fixed Odds on the great mare to win the feature Randwick weight-for-age race soon after her Chipping Norton win.

Winx has now firmed into $1.25 to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes next month. Her odds will be slashed again if she is a definite starter.

WINX RAISES BAR FIRST UP IF THAT IS POSSIBLE

WINX ’S seven lengths romp in the Chipping Norton Stakes was arguably the most outstanding first-up win of her career.

The Randwick track was just into the soft range and Winx obviously enjoys racing on a forgiving surface.

Jockey Hugh Bowman made a very valid point after the Chipping Norton win when he recalled during Winx’s five-start spring campaign, she struck four very firm tracks and although she won them all, the mare wasn’t as comfortable.

“The one wet track she did have was at Flemington and we saw what she did there in the Turnbull Stakes (winning by six-and-a-half lengths),’’ Bowman said.

Waller told Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast Weekend show on Sunday that Winx had pulled up well after the Chipping Norton Stakes and would have an easy week before her preparation starts to crank up again for the George Ryder Stakes.

KIWI training legend Murray Baker wasn’t at Ellerslie to celebrate his New Zealand Derby with Vin De Dance last Saturday, he was at Randwick instead — and for good reason.

“I came here to see Winx because we will never see the likes of her again,’’ Baker said.
