2019 WINX Stakes Field

This year a field of 10 will contest the weight-for-age feature.

Seven of the 10 runners are Group I winners headlined by two of Australia’s biggest weight-for-age names – Avilius and Happy Clapper.

The field also includes Chris Waller’s three high-class mares Verry Elleegant, Unforgotten and Youngstar as well as the Kris Lees duo of Le Romain and Invincible Gem.

Godolphin import and Best Of Days and Waller’s multiple Group I-placed performer King’s Will Dream are also in the field.

The Winx Stakes will now become one of the feature WFA sprint to middle distance races each year in Australia. The race is run in Sydney at Randwick over 1400m and will be a target for the top Winter horses as well as for Spring contenders to begin their campaigns in.

The race was introduced in 2018 by the ATC in honour of champion mare Winx and is raced at weight for age conditions for three year olds and older at Group l level and boasts a total prize pool of $500,000.

The 2019 Winx Stakes will be run on Saturday the 24th of August, 2019 at Randwick racecourse.

The race was formerly known as the Warwick Stakes at Group 2 level but has been renamed the Winx Stakes as well as being elevated to Group 1 level.
